Okay, so I shoot a LOT of bridges.
I can’t help it. As a lifelong fan of architecture and design, I’m a sucker for a beautiful, elegant feat of engineering, especially if that feat is still the longest suspension bridge in the U.S.
“Underbelly 2: Electric Boogaloo”
In honor of the opening of the spectacular new eastern span of the SF/Oakland Bay Bridge, I went out and took some shots of another elegant, cathedral-like bridge… one that has stood for 130 years and has never needed rebuilding (oh snap, yo!)

EK TRIVIA TIME: In 1983, the year of the bridge’s centennial, little Eddie Kiley, a 5th grader from Brooklyn, drew a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge that won him a $50 savings bond and was displayed in the Brooklyn Museum. For, like, a week. But still…!
